With midterm elections approaching, Americans across the United States have been sharing the issues they say will shape how they cast their ballots. The reporting was carried out as part of the BBC's Voter Voices series, which asks voters around the country to identify their top issue in this election. The economy was the most frequently mentioned topic, and it is also the number one issue for most voters according to polls cited in the series. Others raised law and order, immigration and healthcare, among other concerns. Some voters also expressed fears about the United States becoming either fascist or communist, reflecting anxieties about the country's political direction. The interviews were gathered and filmed by Meiying Wu, Angélica Casas, Blanca Estrada, Eloise Alanna, Sheila Flynn, Katy Bailes, Regan Morris, Keith "Chuck" Tayman, Pratiksha Ghildial and Andrew Sarge Herbert. The video was produced and edited by Meiying Wu.
