Hundreds of thousands of protesters took to the streets across France as the nation prepares for a general strike in the coming days.
Nationwide demonstrations, which marked the third weekend of protests, were fueled by public dissatisfaction regarding the rising cost of living and the quality of public services.
In Paris, demonstrations resulted in clashes between protesters and police, with authorities deploying tear gas to manage the crowds.
According to France's interior ministry, more than 320,000 people participated in the demonstrations across the country. Police reported that approximately 70,000 individuals took to the streets specifically in Paris.
At least 290 protesters were arrested during the demonstrations. Authorities indicated that extensive preparations were made to prevent a recurrence of the violence, rioting, and looting that occurred two weeks prior.
Beyond France, the protests are part of a broader trend across the continent. BBC correspondent James Waterhouse reported that similar demonstrations involving youth have taken place in Albania, Germany, and Italy.
