An eight-year-old girl has been seriously injured after being attacked by a wolf at a wildlife park in Germany. The incident took place inside an enclosure at the Johannismühle park in Brandenburg, south of Berlin. Police said the girl was in the enclosure with a staff member and two other children when the attack happened. In a statement, police said the precise circumstances of the incident are the subject of an ongoing investigation. The girl was taken to hospital by helicopter following the attack on Wednesday. No one else was injured. According to the German newspaper Bild, the girl was injured by at least one animal and suffered head injuries. The newspaper reported that the incident occurred before the park opened at 10:00 local time (09:00 GMT), and said the girl may have been taking part in a special visit. Johannismühle offers small group tours that allow visitors to spend time with some of its animals. Its website mentions activities such as feeding wolves or petting a llama. The park, located in the town of Baruth/Mark, has been closed temporarily and is set to reopen on 2 November, according to its website, which did not provide further details. The park keeps grey wolves and Arctic wolves, along with other animals including brown bears and lynx. The attack follows a series of other incidents involving animals at zoos and wildlife parks in Europe. A keeper at a Dutch zoo died this week after being mauled by a leopard, and a man was killed by a tiger at Yorkshire Wildlife Park in England earlier this month.
